Music Monday- (new) Bat For Lashes

I have been waiting and waiting for Natasha Khan's new album.  I'm glad its finally out!! Here is one of her new songs, 'All Your Gold', from the album 'The Haunted Man'.  There is a great interview at this link, where she discusses the cover art and the concept of the album, if you are interested.

Music Monday- Psy (of course)

First of all, where did this guy come from?  Beside the woodwork.  Oh he is from South Korea and the Wikipedia page said,

"The music video has been viewed over 336 million times on YouTube of September 30, 2012, making it the most watched video of 2012 on that site".

When asked what the meaning of the song was, he said, "he intended a twisted sense of humor by claiming himself to be "Gangnam Style" when everything about the song, dance, looks, and the music video is far from being such a high class.[16] In another interview with CNN, Psy added that:

'People who are actually from Gangnam never proclaim that they are — it’s only the posers and wannabes that put on these airs and say that they are "Gangnam Style" — so this song is actually poking fun at those kinds of people who are trying so hard to be something that they’re not.' ".

This song is so dang catchy and I want to do a Zumba routine to it, now wouldn't that be fun?!  You could do the funny horsey moves, like in the video!

Here is the best part-- Owen loves this song and he rocks out to it, thoroughly.  The proof is below!

Music Monday- Best Coast

Sorry I am in a hurry and can't say more... the music speaks for itself right?

Music Monday- Delta Spirit

I have been obsessed with this song for the last little while.  I like Delta Spirit but the rest of their stuff is still growing on me... for some reason none of their other songs can compare to this one.  Their style is right down my alley so I will be listening and getting more familiar with their other stuff and I am sure the love will follow soon after ;)

Music Monday- Lana Del Rey

Hey guys remember me?  I pulled my nose out of a book to bring you this music post...  If you are my friend on Facebook then you are probably thinking, "shut up already about Lana Del Rey".  ha ha I know, I know.  But for real, I love her right now.  I love her deep, sultry voice and the dirty, dark undertones of the lyrics and mood of her music.  I decided that if I ever were to try out for 'American Idol' (I know, let's pretend I'm not too old to try out) I would sing one of her songs.

Here is one of my fav's of hers.  Check her out HERE.

Music Monday- M83 concert!

This weekend I went to the M83 show and man was it good!  It was their first time playing in Salt Lake City and I can guarantee they will be back again!!! The band was so enthusiastic and energetic and Anthony the main guy was so sweet and appreciative of the audience.  The show was sold out and the energy there was amazing!!  I kind of wished that I would have been on the floor for some of the show to dance with everyone but I did a little dancing on the balcony and had a stellar view of the stage. The girl that toured with him and played keyboards and provided vocals was sooo good.  I loved her!! She is Morgan Kibby and she was so energetic and her voice is beautiful.  I think I may have a little girl crush on her!  I went with Chris, he bought the tickets for me as a Christmas gift, so we have been excited for this show for quite a while.  I still get giddy thinking about it.  Sometimes I feel like and old lady at shows but I don't feel like I will ever outgrow that thrill of going to a live show.  (Luckily last night was an older crowd mostly.) When Lola gets a little older I want to start taking her to some shows too.  Chris and I both have a passion for music and that is something we want to pass on to our children.

Here are some pics and vids from the show

Music Monday- song highlight "O Evelyn".

We all know that I love Owen but this song is so sweet to me because it is about his daughter (as far as I have been able to figure out and her photo is on the cover of the EP so...)  It is a meaningful song, I love when musical artists become fathers, it changes them in some ways and makes them more tender and real to me.

Here is the acoustic, up-close-and-personal version of the song (filmed in Mike Kinsella's home) and the lyrics are below :)

All that I need is to know that I'll know you when you're older

O, Evelyn, don't shy away from the cameras and don't die before i do

And all that I need is to know that I'll know you when you're older

O, Evelyn, don't waste no time feeling sorry and don't lie down with salesmen

Baby I'm feeling old

and the hairs and my bones are turning grey

where skin once lived only blisters remain

All that I need is to know that I'll know you when you're older

O, Evelyn, don't let your shyness define you

you're a queen amongst libertines

Music Monday- Of Monsters And Men

These guys are awesome.  Chris found them and thought I would love them right away... and he was right.  I love when there are 2 singers in a band, especially if they are male and female.  Love this!  Of Monsters And Men, check them out.

Music Monday- Say Hi

I am still getting to know this band but I like what I have heard and I find it funny that their name used to be, "Say Hi To Your Mom" and then they shortened it because they said that name no longer fit their aesthetic. ha ha  So go check out 'Say Hi' and listen to the tune below :)  This song is from an older album, 'The Wishes and The Glitch' (2010).

Music Monday- M.I.A.

Oh this new M.I.A. single is sooo good!!  I can't get over it.  I didn't love her last CD that much but when I heard this new song I got so excited about what is in store for her next album... whenever that may be.  Here is the single "Bad Girls".

Music Monday- Bombay Bicycle Club

Here is another one of those bands that caught my attention right away.  I was telling Chris yesterday that the first time I heard this album I was in shock because I kept thinking, "I love this song" over and over and on the first listen through, that is a rarity!  Bombay Bicycle Club is exactly down my alley and I haven't been able to stop listening to this album for the past couple of weeks.  Especially the album, "A Different Kind of Fix".  I wanted to share a couple different songs because there are so many I love.  These guys reside in what I like to call "my genre".  I have told you about it before.  Love, love, love!!!

This video is cute, older people over-load!

Music Monday- The Naked and Famous

Because I have been in a dancey mood lately, I thought I would share a band that I like to listen to when I am feeling particularly upbeat or when I want something to dance to.  What first caught my attention about these guys was that they sound JUST like Passion Pit... not sure if that is a good thing for a band... to take another bands sound... whether intentional or not. I actually thought it was new Passion Pit ha ha  Anyway, they are fun!  Here is a song that you have probably heard on the radio, if you ever listen to X96, since they play the same songs ALL DAY LONG, boo! Here they are, The Naked and Famous.

Music Monday- Two Door Cinema Club

Let's get real here.  I LOVE TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB!!! Thank you Spotify for introducing me to them.  I LOVE the entire album.  It is not very common that you come across a new band that you feel is exactly your musical style... well, these guys are it.  They are my favorite kind of music.  I feel the same way about The Editors, Minus the Bear, The Stills, Beach House, etc.  I love them so much that you get to videos today!  Please tell me you feel the same!?

Music Monday- Gotye

I heard this song a while ago by GOTYE and I must admit, I thought it was just...ok... not much more than that.  But since then I heard it a bunch more and it really grew on me.  Hence why most of you have probably heard it already but just in case there are some of you that haven't, I felt it was worth posting.  My friend Kelli and I have been loving this song lately and she said her hubby is going crazy because she listens to it so much haha!

His voice (in this song) reminds me a lot of Sting and I think that was the thing I liked best first.  The rest of the album I have only ran through once or twice so I am not sure what my opinion is yet but I didn't not like it either ;)

Music Monday- Devon Williams

I just heard Devon Williams and thought he would be a fun artist to highlight today.  I like the dreamy sound that he has.  It reminds me of bands like M83, the Shins, the Pixies, etc.  The song that got me at first was "Your Sympathy", I heard it on one of my favorite websites 'Indie Rock Cafe'.  The other songs I have heard are good as well and stick to the poppy/dreamy feel.  Here is 'Your Sympathy' from the album 'Euphoria".

Music Monday- The Moth and The Flame

You locals probably already know this great band but for those of you that aren't from here or don't know them, you will be glad I showed you.  The Moth and The Flame.  Provo is putting out so much great music right now and I am glad to be here so I can be a part of it.  I finally went to see these guys play live 2 weekends ago, they played with my friend Scott's band, Book on Tape Worm.  The show was called "Slumber Party" because of the mellow nature of the music being performed. It was a moving show, shared with some of our closest friends and beside having to sit on blankets and getting butt aches and cramped legs, it was awesome! The music was beautiful and the artists hearts were into the tunes they were sharing.  As of right now you can only get their CD in physical form, meaning at a show or you can order it on their website, but no MP3's yet.  They want you to get the full effect of the artwork with the album. However, if you go to their website and click on "listen", there is a playlist so you can listen to some of their music. Enjoy!

Here is a pic of Scott at the show the other weekend, soo good!

Music Monday- Macklemore

Chris introduced me to Macklemore a while ago, he's a good hubby. :) I like hip hop in moderation, I think my issue is that some of it gets redundant and others have too much violence or cursing for me.  I can handle some cursing but when it sounds like they are trying to swear as much as they possibly can and it starts muddling the actual meaning of the lyrics... then I have an issue with that.  Macklemore aka Ben Haggerty keeps it clean, deals with real issues and deeper meanings than a lot of hip hop artists now a days.  Here is one of my favorite songs of his.
